George Review The Sun

Caught Live: George Michael

GEORGE MICHAEL said goodbye to 25 years on stage with his last ever live shows over the Bank Holiday weekend.

I grew out of my WHAM! outfit in 1985 so I sent superfan and Bizarre reporter BECI WOOD to see the curtain come down on Sunday and she thought the gig was Amazing.

Here is her review.

Emerging in a sharp brown suit, tinted glasses and platform heels, George immediately had the crowd under his spell as he kicked off with Waiting and 1996 hit Fast Love.

I've see many artists at London's Earl's Court, but none have controlled an audience like George.

He told us to stand and we did. When he wanted us to sit everyone duly obeyed.

He was Flawless as he reeled off tracks from his extensive back catalogue, including favourites Father Figure, Too Funky and Faith in a set that wowed fans for two-and-a-half hours.

The singer also thrilled the crowd with a cover of Feeling Good by NINA SIMONE - which he has recorded for the US TV show Eli Stone - and a version of THE POLICEs Roxanne.

George revealed the Simone cover will be available free as a download pressie on December 25, along with a new Christmas song he has written.

At 46, his gyrating dance moves may be a little on the cringey side, but vocally he proved he is one of Britain's all-time greats.

Stand-out tracks included the spectacular Amazing and the rather inevitable, but barn-storming, Careless Whisper, where he was dressed as a policeman.

There were rumours that his ex bandmate pal ANDREW RIDGELEY would join George on stage, but in the end his only appearance was in some old Wham! videos played on a big screen.

George looked a little tearful as he thanked the crowd for 25 great years and finished the set with a rousing version of Freedom 90.

But even though he is retiring from the live arena circuit for a quieter life, . the singer assured his barmy army that there is still plenty more music to come

Lets hope so............
