Like one of our Olympic heroes, George Michael was at the peak of his powers for his first farewell concert.
Around 32,000 packed Earls Court Arena on Sunday and last night for The Final Two gigs.
Millions more will enjoy the shows, celebrating his 25 years as a performer, when they are released on DVD at Christmas.
Over two glorious career spanning hours the 45-year-old man showed how the boy from Bushey has grown into an arena pop champion.
The show emphasised George's soulful vocal artistry, superlative songwriting and sheer presence.
But what shone brightest of all was his desire - and ability - to radiate sheer joy that spread in waves through an audience that spanned the generations. It was, simply, an honour to be there.
As a showman, George is up there with the best Britain has produced. Your Ronans and your Robbies will come and go - he is a class apart. "Thank you for 25 f***ing amazing years," he said before leading the all-singing, all-laughing, smiling and dancing crowd into the final encore - Freedom, first recorded towards the end of his time with Andrew Ridgeley in Wham!
Ahead was a career that would see him sell 100 million albums, court controversy, face tragedy and humiliation but always return triumphant in his music.
It's easy to see why he inspires such devotion from fans.
He's open and honest about his inclinations, admits to his failings yet has never stinted on quality.
