i just answered this thread next door, it is the truth and its my honest opionun but not much help im afraid, oh and my sis girl had to black out the white strip in her shoes last sept the teacher even gave her the black marker pen to do it with !!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do the school uniform guidelines say? I think if a headteacher is going to be strict on uniform (which I think is a good thing ) then they need to make parents aware BEFORE the start of a new term.
It does seem quite petty but at the school I went to there were probably far more petty rules. I understand your annoyance, Jayne but generally I don't like parents trying to fight the headteacher. It's often interpreted by the students as the head/teachers don't need to be respected.
Hopefully the head is as strict on other areas of discipline - where it really matters.
If you want to pursue this then ask the headteacher to send you a copy of the full uniform policy and tell him you are not happy about this situation.
Then put how you feel in writing to the Local Education Authority.
However teachers can hold grudges and can make life a bit difficult for your daughter if you pursue this now so its probably easier all around to just get her new shoes....parents hold grudges too and then at the end of year send the stinkiest letter of complaint in to the LEA then!!
Ill speak to Clare though (my teacher friend who is in a secondary school) to see what she says about it!
yes we took the school leaflet in that had a kid modeling a shoe with a line through the sole her answer thats an old one there will be a new leaflet out tomorrow even though we picked it up from reception this morning also what teacher has the right to haul her out in front of everyone and humiliate her i am all for respecting the school rules and supporting the teachers but this is absolutely ridiculouse especialy when i pointed out there was a teacher in yellow stiletoes and exposing a tattoo,i will buy another pair of shoes as my daughters education is more important but i will not let this lie it borders on stupid and does not affect her learning ability or behaviour sam i agree with school uniform but not when they take it to such extremes my daughters have to have the school polo shirt even though they have to cover it up with a jumper so i cant buy the white shirt from say tesco for £6 FOR 2 i have to pay £17 that is not playing fair is it

It really depends on the individual school policy. If they say there is a strick rule on uniform being a particular colour then it stands. I know my daughters school is not allowed any colour on their shoes other than black. That also goes for their school coat, socks, gloves, scarfs and even umbrellas.
It seems unfair that they will humiliate a pupil infront of everyone, usually the pupil will be warned in private and a letter sent home to the parents. Rules on uniform are put in place to stop individuals standng out in the crowd and there will always be pupils who will push the boundaries on this. I am not saying that your daughter is doing this on purpose Jayne - far from it. The school needs to have a CLEAR POLICY on what is acceptable and what is not.

Jayne, I know the school has said that the shoes are not school policy but what adverse affect exactly is a bloody white line on a shoe gonna have!!!
Uniform is a good thing, guidelines are needed, i.e. no mini-skirts or high heeled shoes etc but pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, a white stripe on a shoe???? I ask you, I to like you would be absoultely spitting feathers. You try and do the right thing, buy the uniform, send them into school in shoes and NOT trainers and still you can't do right, makes you feel like saying
to the whole establishment!!! Good luck Jayne and I hope you get the outcome you want.
how bizzare!! what the bollocky hell do shoes have to do with how kids learn? as long as they turn up and want to learn is that not enough these days???!!!
