Well our day starts at Helen's house in Warrington and it's 5:30am and we are getting ready to head for Manchester Airport. Having dropped the car at the Flightpath long stay we jump the bus for Terminal 1 and the start of our journey over the North Sea courtesy of SAS so having had breakfast and visited duty free we are now poised to blast down the runway on a clear Cheshire morning. Helen is busy nonchalently reading the morning paper and listening to George on her i-Pod as I squeeze the blood out of Gina's hand and we rocket thankfully into the skies and bank off towards Newcastle and out over the North Sea. It is a beautifull sunny day with temperatures of 20C as we catch a first glimpse of our host nation for this reputedly final leg of the 25Live tour and as we descend over the very flat looking islands around the bay and make a final approach into Copenhagen for a thankfully smooth landing!! After whisking through Copenhagen Airport with typical Danish efficiency and into the rail connections we board one of Denmarks spotlessly clean, air conditioned silver trains for a magic carpet ride into the centre of town. What a joy to be on a train that moves so seamlessly and yet so quickly that it wouldn't spill a drop from a full cup of coffee but you still have to drink it quickly enough in order to finish it before alighting in the centre of Copenhagen.
First glimpses of the busy city are very favourable and we skirt around the famous Tivoli gardens towards The Square Hotel on the main street (named after Hans Christian Anderson) which is very modern, clean, comfortable and efficient and with beautifully appointed rooms with air conditioning and free internet that would put the Grange to shame. After dropping bags and getting aquainted with our rooms we meet up with Eileen and Shirley who were an hour behind us for a happy reunion and after they drop their stuff off as well we all head to a Tapas bar across the street for a light lunch and some Sangria.
Having refreshed ourselves we head off to explore Copenhagen and walk the entire length of the lively riverfront to see the little mermaid and taking in many photo opportunities along the way including The Dinner In The Sky where you can dine through 4 courses whilst dangling from a 150 foot crane!! Also crossing the famous Nyhaven canal area featured in so many postcards and on past the new opera house which is a simply stunning building.
We finally arrive after walking for what seems like miles at the famous little mermaid which is much smaller than everyone imagines but a must see in Copenhagen.
After a pit stop up by the cruise ship terminal we head back into town via the Royal Palace and end up back in the town square having walked for miles!!
Of of the first things that strikes you about this beautiful city is the sheer amount of bicycles which are just everywhere like the coblestones, the whole place is geared towards them and there are special lanes on almost every street for them. Another thing is even though they are parked en masse everywhere you go, none of them are locked which says a lot about the Danes in general whom have all been charming to us so far. The city is spotlessly clean with no litter anywhere but the only blot on the Danish copybook is the amount of graffiti you see which pops up in the most unlikely of places and reminds me of New York sometimes and must be the only way the Danish youth channel their protests and make their mark. After grabbing a somewhat cheaper dinner from of all places Burger King as this is one expensive place to eat out and drink we head to The Scottish Pub which not only has free live music on but is pratically next door to our hotel so will have to do for tonight!!
After absorbing bar prices of roughly £5 a drink we make a welcome beeline for bed near midnight after a long, hard and extremely enjoyable day,Copenhagen is truly wonderful it's no wonder they celebrated it in song. Tomorrow is going to be a long day as it is concert time.........
It is a FAB city been there a few times......unfortunately this weekend is not one of them! But I did some SERIOUS spending yesterday & today

Ruthie...how is that Water bottle doing??? Have you yet? or you going to frame it??
Sorry to bu t t in on this thread...I can just give you a few goodies from yesterday's show until Kenny and Gina are back in Scotland to do their bit. George sang Kissing a fool for one during which Kenny came walking at the barriers with two girls (I have been informed one of them was Denmark's newest princess, wife of Prince Joakim) whom proceeded to sit down in front of the small catwalk stage. They sat there throughout Roxanne and during a bit of Amazing.
George also thanked the people who had been working with the visions, and they got a big roar from the audience and George thanked his band (twice actually) saying there are no better people to travel around the world with.
He thouroughly enjoyed the crowd and we enjoyed him naturally! He said something like there had been a higher procentage of Danish people coming to the 25live tour (due to the fact that last time at Parken there were 54 000 and last night somewhere in the region of 40 000 methinks).
He took his glasses off an paraded down the catwalk after Freedom when he was saying his goodbyes.
He acknowledged the people who had been coming to a lot of his shows saying he knew who they were.
I don't remember more right now...
Although I have to say I had some really rude people to my right who tried to push me from my spot in the second row, I could easily have battered the Polish ungratefuls but I tried not to be bothered and just be "the bigger man"... I persevered and had a great view and a fantastic time!
Ok it is concert day and I have been recieving texts and calls all night from my friend Karin who has been queuing since 20:30 the night before so I know exactly who there is and how many outside Parken Stadium already. We make the decision to go there now and jump taxis to travel the few miles up town to the stadium, arriving at 10:00. It is nice to renew acquaintences with fans who were in London and those we have not seen for longer and we settle in for the day with numbers 22-26 in the orderly queuing system that has worked at so many of these concerts before and everyone is relaxed and happy. After picking our tickets up from the will call in the afternoon Gina rejoins me as the queue outside is now starting to grow rapidly and the number issuing has reached triple figures by now. One sinister development is that as more and more people arrive they have started to line up opposite us by the entrance and it is clearly obvious these new arrivals have no intention of either joining the queue or adhering to our number system of first come, first inside which is the only fair way of doing these things, but have every intention of forcing their way in regardless. The growing crowd opposite the entrance which is shadowing the queue is starting to press up towards us and we all decide to take our places in line according to the numbers we were given on arrival. This unfortunately has the effect of galvanising the crowd who are threatening to push in to press even more against us and as we have nowhere else to go this means the crushing is starting in earnest. Despite pleas to move back and get in line from several people including Andy and the stewards the mob that has gathered are making it perfectly clear they have no intention of doing either, even though the stewards are telling them that they are going to adhere to our number order for entry to the stadium which is entirely fair. As the stewards start the process of fitting us with wrist bands the pushing is becoming very worrying and the press of bodies is increasing to dangerous levels. I spot Jeff and Ash at the back of the mob and I know by the gestures and the look on his face that he thinks as I do, that this situation is getting out of hand rapidly and there is a real chance now of a serious incident. Gina and I are becoming seperated by the mass of bodies and she is becoming increasingly distressed by the crush and finding it difficult to breath which is causing me great anxiety, the man and his wife behind her who are causing most of this are unflinching in their determination to keep up the pressure and force their way into the stadium and refuse to back off and give her space despite repeated pleas to do so. Thankfully a really nice guy from Holland and his wife who run Planet George Radio, with whom I was chatting to throughout the day, manages to rescue her and pull her in front of them and Shirley puts a comforting arm around her and calms her down. Eventually the stewards decide at nearly 18:30 to start letting us into the stadium in our number order, the stewarding has so far been a farce with little to no planning or involvement outside the stadium, no railings to segregate the queue and no police presence either which I find very suprising. As I am called forward to enter and squeeze through the doors to finally emerge inside the stadium I realise that Gina has not followed me despite having the next number so I turn back and as the door opens once more I grab one of the stewards and shout to him that she is my wife and has the next number. She is being slowly pulled backwards by the crowd but the steward makes a lunge and grabs her, pulling her inside much to my relief. We are shaking with the adreneline of what has turned into a scary experience but our respite is short lived as we are shepherded into one of the tunnels leading into the stadium and as more people are coming in behind us it looks like the numbering has completely broken down as they are trying to once more push past us down the sides of the tunnel. The stewards look genuinely scared as three of them are trying to hold back a growing throng of bodies because bloody George has once more turned up late and is still sound checking inside the stadium. Finally with Mr Michael satisfied the door swings back and the stewards step aside and there is just a stampede out onto the pitch despite the stewards helpless pleas for calm as those behind try for the last time to gain the advantage. I manage, along with Helen and Gina to secure places on the barrier at the small stage but in the mayhem we are seperated so I duck behind GMFreek and another woman and join Gina and Shirley slightly to the left of centre stage. We stay in these positions and everything seems to be settling down after the madness outside but I start to get disturbing reports that one of the guys who had been outside trying to jump the queue with his wife is giving Eileen a hard time and has upset her so much that she is sorry she came. We manage to get the others on the barrier to swap positions with them thereby bringing Eileen and Helen next to me and after spending some time calming her down she tells me her story of how this guy who is a Dutch fan club member,in full view of his wife, firstly knocked a tray of drinks out of her hands delberately, refusing to apologise he then proceeded to subject her to a barrage of elbows, jostling and kicks unitl she surrendered the space he had wanted so badly centre stage. I think it is important to say at this point that the behaviour of a few low lifes in and around Parken Stadium, should not detract from what was a very enjoyable time in Denmark and that in our experience the Danes are largely a very nice, friendly bunch of people. I have many dear Danish friends and they are truly lovely people who were just as appalled at what happened that day as we were. I know from talking with them afterwards how embarrassed they all were at the behaviour of some of their countrymen but it has to be said that this was not an exclusively Danish trait on that day. This Dutch guy who so ruthlessly pursued his goal of centre stage by beating up on Eileen went onto the offical site afterwards to boast how he achieved his goal from being number 67 in line, yet it was a line he had no intention of observing and a method he has no conscience over. I personally find this disgusting behaviour from anyone let alone a fan club member and I will refrain from naming and shaming him in here as that would be to abuse my powers as a moderator, however for any of you whom finds curiosity an uneasy bedfellow then you may find this individual on the dark side posting of his achievments in the 25Live Section under the thread Copenhagen the Final one! I sincerely hope I have the opportunity to meet this individual again some day and discuss his behaviour in some detail. Having recounted the problems of that day from what started out as a joyous occasion for us all, I do not wish these to detract from what was for me one of the finest concerts I have ever experienced. These things are very personal and for me the location I had on the barrier at the small stage, the pictures I managed to take which are the best I have ever managed to achieve, the closeness of George himself as he looked me in the eye and sang I'd like to see you naked, the company of our friends as we all boogied together and Gina getting that water bottle that George himself had drunk from at the end all conspired to make it for me one of the best concets I have ever attended!
The familiar sounds of waiting belt out into a packed Parken Stadium to a crowd of an estimated 50,000 and the acoustics are remarkably good considering FC Copenhagen normally ply their trade here when the roof is open to the elements, tonight though it is thankfully closed utilising its reputation as the fastest closing roof of its type in the world. (Copenhagen's small claim to fame). George takes the stage nearly 45 minutes later than billed after his private flight arrives 1 hour late and appears to be once again suffering from a cold but is definitely up for this the last ever gig of 25Live.......
Dennis our wonderful host for the evening and the man who secured Gina George's water bottle as a souvenir!
After a fabulous show which for me personally was one of the best ever we meet up with friends after the show and exchange experiences, we head with Ulla,Rupi,Lori,Ramona,Jeff,Penny,Ash and the rest of the gang to the Park Cafe Bar which Karin has organised for after show drinks. It is a chance to finally take on much needed fluids, discuss old friendships and concert experiences and unwind gradually after a long day baking in the sun. After discussing the events surrounding the queuing and what transpired inside the stadium with Karin which I really wish to put away, less it detract from what was a truly amazing night, I bid her a sad farewell on the steps of the bar and watch her disappear into the night, not knowing when we will meet again but one thing is certain we will be keeping in touch with all of our wonderful Danish friends. When I walk back inside I find that Helena and her husband have finally made it after initially going to the wrong bar and having to jump in a taxi to get here after several frantic text messages later. We party on into the night and finally jump a taxi back to The Square just before dawn breaks over the city.......
Kenny, I am just going to forget about the awful 3 hours or so of pushing and shoving on Saturday and enjoy the great memories of the fun we had. Otherwise the ar*eholes will have won.
